This review is for the TLR-8A (red laser). But I suspect it applies to the green as well since the adjustments are identical. First, the light and laser are bright. The controls work really well. I wanted a bright light to blind an intruder, while having a laser for quick on target if I needed it. So, I really wanted this to work. And yes, I understand the pros and cons of lasers on pistols. I read reviews about the L/R adjustment not working, but I figured it might be a one off. Unfortunately, it was not. I bought the TLR-8A from my local gun store. Mounted it and the mount was secure, light and laser were great and all controls worked as advertised. Documentation was good. So I took it to the range to zero the laser. It was off, and more up/down vs left/right. Up and down adjusted no problem (the screw is slanted so be aware of that). However, when I went to adjust it left/right, it would not budge. Not wanting to strip the screw I took it home. Torqueing hard enough I was about to strip the screw or the Allen wrench it would not budge. I went to the store and swapped it for another unit. I tried to zero it using my iron sights. Same problem, the L/R would not move. Went back to the store and not wanting to make a fourth trip, I tried all three remaining units. All had the problem. I contacted Streamlight who was very responsive. They said if it didn’t work they would fix it. So I bought one from Amazon. Went to sight it at home and both adjustments worked. Had it roughly zeroed in relative to the iron sights. I was very excited to take it to the range. Well, at the range it was off a bit, so I adjusted the up/down, no problem. But, now the L/R was frozen and all that happened was the Allen wrench would strip. I returned the unit. I guess I could have tried sending it to Streamlight, but I have no confidence if it is fixed, it will stay fixed. The short of it is, if you get the L/R to work, you are the lucky one. In both cases I switched over to the TLR-7A (light only). That unit is great. If Streamlight could make the laser adjustment work this would be a good option. My advice, just stick with the light TLR-7A and save your money. Go with a red dot if you want another sighting device. Read more

The light is bright and the laser is easy to adjust and once adjusted, holds it’s alignment well. It fits well on my gun, looks nice, and is ready to use. One negative is that since this light isn’t very common, I haven’t been able to find anyone who makes a kydex holster for my pistol with this light. In retrospect, I wish I had bought a more mainstream weapon light. The other negative is that the laser light is completely invisible outside in the sun, even at 5 yards. Seems only useful at night. I would rather have a cheaper light without the laser built in and go with red dot sights for aiming. Read more

This review is for the TLR-8A light with red laser. I bought this for my Springfield Armory XD 9mm Service model (4″ barrel). Installation was easy as was installing the battery. It comes with the Univ-1 mounting plate already installed and this is the plate for my handgun so I just had to loosen the mounting screw a bit, mount it on the rail and tighten it. It fits perfectly with the end of the light matching the length of the barrel exactly. I left the back switches on that came with the light, but it comes with a second set of switches you can installed to replace the stock switches in case you don’t like the feel of the stock switches. For my gun and thumbs, I can operate both switches very easily barely altering my grip. Turning it on and switching modes is very easy. I zeroed the laser with a laser bullet I have. This too was pretty simple. Then I took it to the range. I generally practice without the laser because I want to be better using the metal sights on the gun. But I also fired off a bunch of rounds using the laser. First shot was dead on target. After about 50 rounds the TLR-8 was till secure and zeroed. I did not see any movement resulting for the recoil of the rounds I fired. Just a note about red vs green lasers. I read green lasers are easier to see in bright light. I originally ordered the green but it was backordered for more than 2 months. I don’t shoot outside in sunlight much so I just ordered the red laser. It is very bright and I had no problems seeing it at 15 or 20 yards at the range other than my eyesight. Someone had a green laser on the shooting lane next to mine and honestly, my red laser was much brighter downrange than his green laser. So, I am happy with the red. A note on the battery. I read some people complain about the battery because it is hard to find. It is type 123, which is not a typical flashlight battery, but I have looked around and a few stores have a good supply of this battery. They are not cheap though. I believe the brightness of the light and laser are because this is a good powerful battery type for this application. Do not let it stop you from purchasing the TLR-8. It is a great product. I got sent a used light. A few of the different rail adapters were just sitting in the box and obvious scratches on the screw that tightens the light to the rail. Obvious that the battery had already been put in and used. Pretty bummed and annoyed. Read more

I thought I had bought the wrong one! Couldn’t toggle light and laser. Didn’t have the right glasses to read the fine print. I finally figured it out…push either switch down and then toggle through the options with the other then release and it remembers. Yes it’s in the book…4th page. Extra small print. Mounted it on my little rubber “riot gun”. It hangs low but not bad. Easy enough to reach forward and hit buttons. The 500 lumens is all I need. Wish I could have gone surefire….I have a bunch of those things…but for a rubber ball gun…eh. Works fine. Red laser is fine. Hope i can zero it…but for a rubber ball gun…not fussy. Read more

The light is plenty bright, laser is easy to adjust and once adjusted seems to holds alignment. This is one of very few that fits my M&P 9mm EZ (with correct key-kit included). 4 stars due to cost, for a “flashlight” $200+ is too high. Read more
